Not only does the CurriculaWorks system assess the performance of your learners, but also the effectiveness of your learning materials themselves, determining which parts of the content do the best job in preparing students.

The Explode the Code workbook system is a systematic phonics program featuring carefully sequenced phonetic elements and patterns. The CurriculaWorks-powered online version—ETC Online—adds a multisensory environment, internet-wide access, strong auditory reinforcement, sophisticated branching delivery, student/class management features, and high-resolution data analysis. As a student progresses through ETC Online, his or her needs are constantly being reassessed, and the curriculum material changes accordingly. Moreover, it provides additional practice for students on particular skills when they need it and before they move on to more complex skills. Thus students who need additional practice receive additional practice; student who have mastered a skill-set are advanced to new challenges.

Comprehensive online reporting enables parents and teachers to identify specific skills requiring extra reinforcement and practice for each student. Parents and teachers can then work with students on those specific skills. For example in 2005-06, one student showed difficulty in mastering the skill "diagraphs with silent e". As a result, the teacher created an activity for that student that provided additional reinforcement of "diagraphs with silent e" to work on 15 minutes each day for the next three days. Another student showed weakness in "syllable division with open syllables". In this case, the teacher adjusted the computer software to provide additional reinforcement over the next four tutoring sessions. Thus, instructors can utilize the rich assessment tools available to prescribe changes in the intensity of the intervention or additional instructional support based on the individual student’s needs.
